Our Backup Policy


Effective Date: April 01, 2018

This Backup Policy is incorporated by reference into WIPL’s Terms of Service (TOS) and outlines our practices and your responsibilities regarding data backup and recovery across various hosting environments. By using WIPL services, you agree to the terms of this policy.


1. Shared & Reseller Hosting

WIPL performs periodic backups of shared and reseller hosting environments, including website files and email infrastructure. However, these backups are offered as a best-effort courtesy service only and are not guaranteed. Customers remain solely responsible for maintaining current and complete backups of all data hosted under their account.

Backup Requests & Restoration

  • You may request a copy of available backup data taken within the past 7 days, subject to availability.

  • Backup restoration is a resource-intensive process and is not part of the standard hosting plan.

  • Restoration charges (inclusive of applicable taxes) are as follows:

    • ₹ 2,500 + GST for Shared Hosting

    • ₹ 3,500 + GST for Reseller Hosting (up to 10 cPanel accounts)


2. VPS Hosting

Backups are not included in default VPS hosting plans unless an offsite backup service has been purchased from WIPL. By default, WIPL does not maintain backups of your VPS, and all data is hosted at your own risk.

While WIPL may provision a secondary disk for data redundancy upon request at the time of server setup, this does not protect against common causes of data loss such as:

  • File corruption

  • Security breaches

  • Malware or ransomware attack

  • Accidental deletion

Backup Options for VPS:

a)

Local Backups

Easily accessible but vulnerable to device failure, OS corruption, or physical disasters. Customers must maintain at least 40% free disk space to ensure successful local backups.

b)

Acronis Remote Backups

Automated remote backup storage space matching your VPS size. Suitable for Linux servers using rsync or rdiff-backup for versioning.

  • Starts at ₹ 1200/month for 100 GB storage

  • Customer is responsible for backup automation and restore configuration


3. Dedicated Servers

Unless explicitly included in the service order or purchased separately, no backups are maintained for dedicated servers. Customers are responsible for:

  • Configuring backup strategies (local or offsite)

  • Ensuring adequate disk space and backup schedules

  • Testing recovery procedures

WIPL offers optional backup add-ons, including offsite solutions using Acronis or manual rsync-based storage.


4. Remote Backup Plans (Add-on Service)

Customers may opt for Remote Backup Plans separately. These offsite plans provide additional protection against:

  • Server hardware failure

  • Accidental deletion

  • System compromise due to malware or attacks

Note: Remote backups are not enabled by default and must be explicitly added to your plan. Restoration from remote backups is subject to service validation and recovery availability.


Important Disclaimers

  • WIPL assumes no responsibility or liability for data loss under any service unless a valid backup plan has been explicitly purchased and confirmed.

  • WIPL reserves the right to refuse restoration in the event that backup data is unavailable, corrupted, or incomplete.

  • Customers are strongly encouraged to maintain independent backups of all critical data and regularly test restore functionality.
